River Raft Race

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS APRIL 18, 2012-- Sigma Alpha Epsilon(SAE) will be presenting the 17^th annual River Raft Race on April 28. The rafts will launch from 1405 Grune Road in New Branfuels at 11:00 a.m.

Tickets will be $200 for a five-person raft and $90 for a two-person raft.

Now that the fraternity is chartered they hope to implement changes to make the event bigger and better.

“We hope to get a concert going next year the day before the Race so we can make it a weekend event and get a bigger crowd.” said Landon Lehde, SAE President.

Proceeds from the race will go to a number of non-profits. Last year the event raised $10,000 to be donated to Friends of the River, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and American Cancer Association.

From its humble beginnings of race with just 10 rafts the River Raft Race as grown into a tradition for college students statewide. 450 rafts and 2500 co-eds participated in the 2009 Race, this year the fraternity expects around 3000 co-eds to sign up. Now that the SAE's are an official national chapter, students can expect to see more growth and excitement in the years to follow.
